South Africa is mourning the loss of beloved actress Connie Chiume, whose decades-long career took her from being an early Black television actor in South Africa to international fame in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Chiume passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, her family announced in a statement on Instagram.
She was best known for her roles as Mam' Rebecca in the long-running soap opera Generations, as well as Zawavari, a former leader of the Mining Tribe, in the 2018 film Black Panther.
